Child Safety Seats

Illinois law requires children under the age of 8 to be properly secured in a child restraint system. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Illinois DOT strongly suggest keeping children under 12 years old in the back seat - away from air bags. Children under 1 year of age and under 20 lbs should be secured in a rear-facing child restraint. Safety advocates promote keeping infants rear-facing as long as possible, if the child restraint accommodates it. For more information on child restraints, click here.
