Downtown Improvements

Project Scope: 

As part of the Village’s multi-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP), the south Metra commuter lots were identified to be resurfaced during FY2020-2021.

The Downtown Improvements project also includes the widening of the sidewalk at W. Main Street and Spring Street in order to improve pedestrian safety and add additional civic space for visitors of the local businesses and special events.

Project Updates:

  • Contract was awarded to Schroeder Asphalt Services, Inc. on May 5, 2020.
  • Mobilization began the week of August 17th. 
  • Pavement removal in the commuter parking lots south of W. Main Street is scheduled to begin Monday, August 24. Weather permitting, paving will follow that same week with pavement markings placed as early as Saturday, August 30. The widening of the sidewalk adjacent to the south commuter parking lots is underway and should be completed within the next month.
  • 08/25/2020 - The contractor paved the binder course in the commuter lots this week. The underground electrical conduit work is anticipated to begin next week for the downtown sidewalk widening. The concrete pour for the sidewalk will begin following the utility work.
  • 08/31/2020 - The paving of the commuters lots is scheduled for this Wednesday, September 2nd. 
  • 09/03/2020 - The paving and striping of the south commuter lots has been completed. The underground electrical conduit work for the downtown sidewalk widening is set to begin today.
  • 9/17/2020 - The widening of the sidewalk at W. Main Street and Spring Street has been poured. In upcoming days, the contractor will  place asphalt around the outside of the curb, as well as complete any minor punch list items.
