The Cary Police Department reminds motorists to not drink and drive.  We encourage you to use a designated driver or call a taxi if you believe you have had too much to drink.  Some DUI facts for you to consider:

  • Over 300 people were killed in alcohol related traffic crashes in Illinois in 2009
  • Nearly 11,000 people were killed nationwide in alcohol related traffic crashes
  • Nearly 46,000 people were arrested for DUI in Illinois in 2009
  • 84% of drivers arrested for DUI are first time offenders
  • Eleven states, including Illinois, require a first time offender to have a Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device (BAIID) installed on their vehicle
